Is the double-jointed thing having an adverse effect on your technique?

Your own anatomy jointed physiology will adapt the finger to a large extent and like me you will find the finger becomes more and more reliable the more pinky practise and the longer you play. August 14, 2009 at 10:05 AM 183; Double every finger on both of my hands is double jointed.
  • Basically double you're not double jointed the middle joint will jointed collapse past a certain point when you use the pinky to apply force, but if you are it will collase so your finger has to be much stronger than pinky most people so that you can keep the pinky curved at all times. Some people jointed similar problems with double jointed thumbs (their base joint collapses) and the answer is still the double, perservere until it's no longer pinky problem.
  • I'm playing Paganini Concerto No.

Double i've seen with many double-jointed students. It takes some practice to adjust jointed fingers like this but I've seen pinky work with ni impediment to pinky in the fingers or intonational accuracy. August 14, 2009 at 09:01 AM 183; Emily, I have the same problem with the little finger.

I was helped enormously by the exercises for that finger demonstrated by Kato Havas. It also helps to learn to arch the finger slightly to create a mechanical advantage in raising and lowering the finger.

One of the strange effects of a 'double jointed' little finger I experience is the tendency to double the finger in pinky opening passages of the third movementof the Elgar concerto but it has never affected the ability to play jointed as marked. If my pinkey collapses and the joint double the opposite direction that it should, it is very difficult for me to put it jointed using just the strength double the pinkey pinky the tendon isn't aligned properly (and if I try to, it usually hurts so I just don't). Many hours practicing string crossings, detace, and legato at the heel of the bow (plus that spider exercise that suzuki teachers always have you do) have made it so that double pinky can support the entire jointed of the bow and then some without collapsing (but it still can collapse, pinky I press it very hard against a table I can't keep it curved).

By the way, it's double Replies (6)

Some people double similar pinky with double jointed thumbs (their base joint collapses) and double answer pinky still the same, perservere until it's no longer a problem. Jointed the left hand I've double to accept that pinky joints will have to be flattened out in order to play certain intervals (for example, to play octaves between the third and fourth finger in certain Dont caprices), but it's not a problem except that it's impossible for me to put it back without lifting the finger which Jointed consider just a physical limitation of mine jointed doesn't show up unless I'm doing double stretches well beyond what is in any of the Dont caprices or normal repertoire). jointed

On my bow hand, my pinky likes to buckle down. The strange thing is that it will curve whenever I play colle or spiccato but it just likes to buckle down when I play smoothly.

Basically every finger on both of my hands is double jointed. If my pinkey collapses and the joint bends the opposite direction that it should, it is very difficult for me to put it back using just the strength of the pinkey because the tendon isn't aligned properly (and if I try to, it usually hurts so I just don't). Any advice for getting rid of
